THE HISTORY OF ALCESTER TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB
INCLUDING Alcester Athletic Junior Football Club

The History of the Alcester Town Football Club that we are officially relaunching this weekend has it’s roots in the Town’s History and it’s Schools. Alcester Old Boys Football Club was formed after the war by pupils of Alcester Grammar School

Alcester

Alcester Athletic F.C was formed at an Alcester – Vallet twinning association meeting in September 1992.

The twinning association members wanted to involve the youth of Alcester in its activities. A previous Alcester youth football club, some 20 years earlier, had a very successful and long lasting friendship with our French friends. The very first Alcester Athletic team played against Vallet in October 1992 with a group of about 14 boys aged between 12 to 16. This team then returned to Vallet the following year for the away fixture. Our club is keen to continue this tradition and therefore team’s of between the ages of 12 and 14 will be encouraged to play home and away against Vallet/Mouzillon. A separate committee organises these matches together with and including the necessary fund raising.

In 1993 the club join the Central Warwickshire football league with one team at U14s age group. The boys playing at that time chose the name Alcester Athletic together with the green and yellow kit that we play in today.

That first season the club played on local schools pitches. However, it was always the ambition of the club to have its own pitch. This came to fruition when the club obtained the lease to Oversley Green.

Eventually an U12s team was formed as more boys joined the training sessions. The club changed to the Mid Warwickshire league in the 1997/98 season because this represented a more rural population similar to Alcester although some teams now have reverted back to playing in the Central Warwickshire or Evesham leagues. To accommodate the increase in teams and the introduction of small sided soccer the Oversley Green pitch was changed from one pitch to two.

Now, in 2007, the clubs members range from 5 to 16 years, boys and girls with a veteran side running out each year against the French.

ATFC have over 150 members today, making it one of the largest youth organisations in this area. The club have won several trophies over the last twelve years, including league championships, many Cup successes together with league sportsmanship awards.

Friday the 10th December 2004 was a very proud day in the history of Alcester Town Football Club as this was the day it was officially accredited as a F.A. Charter Standard Club by the Birmingham F.A. Development Scheme and The Football Association. The award was made to the Club in recognition of the professional way in which the football club is run. All managers and coaches are now trained and fully Qualified with the Football Association and have passed the relevant F.A. courses in Coaching, First Aid and Child Protection. This Charter Standard will give the Club national exposure as a youth Football Club that are committed to providing a safe and reliable environment for children to play football in the Warwickshire area.

The Club and children have already benefited from this award with invites to Soccer tournaments and England Youth team matches. We very much hope that you will want to be part of the exciting things that are going to happen at Alcester Town Football Club in the years to come.
